Like many of you, I love the newness of the spring season. It seemed like every day I was eagerly watching for those first green blades of grass and the tiny green leaves beginning to unfurl, and yet they still seemed to take me by surprise. Now, looking over our farm, the overall impression is definitely more green than any other colour. I’ve mowed the grassy sections through the rows of saskatoons a couple of times so far this year, and even though the saskatoons are off to a slow start with the leaves just opening now, I know the blossoms will soon follow. Our haskaps are always the earliest to wake up, and they are looking good with full leaves and yellow blossoms. It is always a bit of a guessing game as to when the fruit will actually be ready, but I plan to enjoy each day of preparation as I anticipate the coming season.
I hope you are able to spend some time outdoors, enjoying the magic of Spring, and I especially hope you will be able to find your way out to our u-pick once we are up and running this summer. I’ll keep you posted as to how things are progressing here, and give you as much advance notice as possible.
