Every year I find that it is difficult to wait patiently for the time when the saskatoons are finally ripe to pick, but even more so this summer since we didn’t have a harvest in 2022. Fortunately it looks like our trees are planning to make up for last year’s loss with an abundance of fruit. The trees are loaded from top to bottom, and picking should be really easy this year.
It’s difficult to predict when the saskatoons will be ripe and ready to pick. Right now they are at the ‘green with a tinge of pink’ stage. I’m guessing they might be ready around July 20th, but be sure to keep checking in for updates.
I’m really looking forward to having people out picking this year, and everyone is welcome from the “What is a saskatoon?” person, to those who can’t imagine a life without saskatoons in every form from fresh picked, to the main ingredient in their favourite baked items, to jams and more.
So I’ll be busy practicing patience while I weed through the rows and mow the grass and gear up for baking our saskatoon pies, scones, and crisps. I hope all of you are having a great start to your summer as well, and will be patiently waiting for your chance to come out and enjoy the sweet life here at our farm.
Thanks for the update! Saskatoon picking is at the top of our summer plans ever year!
